A catchy, joyful tale, it is based on the true account of the Von Trapp Family Singers, one of the most well-known musical ensembles in the years just before World War II. Julie Andrews portrays Maria, a tomboyish postulant at an Austrian convent who ends up working as a governess for a widowed navy captain and her seven children, bringing a new appreciation for life and music to the household.
