The Crossroads…

In our lives, there are two parallel lives. In front of us, we have two options for roadways. One has a signpost pointing to the destination of death and misery, of perpetual uncertainty and tiresome fights, with a one hundred percent reliable success. You will arrive at your destination regardless. The other is a very different story. There is no mention of a destination. Because everything hinges on the first step you take. Following that, it is not adequately stated. It’s a route with no destination other than yourself. A destination that is in close proximity to you. A destination that cannot be reached through time. A predetermined location.

You only need to look behind you, above your shoulder, to observe that the distance has already been traveled, that you have arrived at the placeless location of your eternal self as being, and that you are already made of the happiness you seek. And all of this is right at the start, at the very first step you take. A timeless step toward eternal being.

Take the less traveled path, and your life will take on a completely new meaning. It will become aimless while remaining open to a thousand alternatives. It makes no difference whether or not these possibilities be realized. Because you’ve already accomplished what you set out to do.

You’ve already reached your target. Replete. Complete. There is no need for confirmation, outcomes, or anything else that might demonstrate your much-desired bliss. This is not the same as trying to embody a possibility in the hope that it contains the recipe for your happiness. When it is discovered to be dry and empty of such promise, another possibility is pursued, never accusing the process itself but only the object that did not fulfill the requisite expectation. It’s like trying a thousand medicines for a cure and then disputing their efficacy but never the diagnosis of the ailment.

So the road to suffering is paved with a thousand directions, whereas the road to happiness has no directions at all, for the simple reason that its efficacy is not in self-improvement through the acquisition or pursuit of objects, but in the quiet and peaceful realization of your being’s directionless and objectless nature, and its one hundred percent reliability in matters of happiness, which is all life is about. The thousand possibilities are therefore reduced to expressing that already attained happiness, without holding the expectation of, or responsibility for, happiness.

The reason why the route to misery is so consistently chosen is that as long as you allow items the power to offer you happiness, the direction on the signpost will indicate ‘Happiness’. How could you ever pick an unknown path over a well-defined one towards the most important goal of your life? Remember that the appropriate indication on the signpost is for you to see, interpret, and write. The aimless area in your own being will then be carefully identified and established. It is never possible to choose who you are. What you are not and will never be is a matter of decision. The less traveled path becomes the only feasible road, and the direction it points to is the direction of your own self, where bliss dwells.
